  1. You can go to school and get a computer science degree. Another option is to get certified. The Comptia A+ exam is for computer technicians or various Microsoft certificates. There are Technical schools to help you prepare you for the exams. The beauty of certificates is that you can get books and use internet resources to study on your own then you can schedule an appointment to take the test.

    Hope this helps.

  2. learn perl. if you successfully do that, you will be above most computer geeks.

  3. stick to what your doing for a thousand years and glory will be yours!

  4. Look on this site for questions to answer and get on the net and research until you find the answer.

It would also help if you took some courses depending on what interests you, software, hardware, networking.

I started by rebuilding computers I bought at thrift stores and then giving them away and giving support to the people who used them.

  5. You have started well grasshopper.

You have a lot of work ahead of you. Reading tedious manuals about hardware configurations, motherboard specifications and the art of the Linux Terminal.

Only when these become second nature can you truly begin to call yourself a computer geek. You must love endless forum discussions about OS kernals and programming in Python.

Remembering half-forgotten TV shows from the 70s is also a plus. As I said, you have started well, Grasshopper.

  6. Start using a different Operating system than what most people use and also learn some programming
