  1. Most area's require a minimum age of 21, other than that common sense, no felonies and physical ability. Contact the Houston police dept, see if they have an explorers/cadet program and start accruing benefits early.

For the Houston Police Department, you must have either completed 60 semester hours from an accredited college or university with a “2.0” average or have served active duty in the military for at least 2 years and received an honorable discharge. The best thing to do would be to attend college and earn a bachelor degree in a field that interests you and that would also be useful for a police career. For example, criminal justice, accounting, psychology, a foreign language, or computer science are good majors.
