I'm a senior in High School and my grades aren't to good, i'm just getting by to graduate. I want to take 2 years to go to a Community College and 2 years in another college. Is this the right move? I'd like to know everything there is to be a firefighter.

  1. The basic requirements to be a firefighter are an EMT course, FFI and FFII and haz-mat classes.

To take those classes you may have to have a high school diploma.

You don't need to, but if you want to go to college for four years, you can get a bachelors in Fire Science, or any other fire related degree. That will help you out when you start looking for a job.

Most people just settle for getting the basic requirements and don't future their education. You'll stand out with some college.

There are also a ton of 1 to 5 day courses out there for fire/rescue that certify you. Taking those will help you out, too.

    Good luck.
