  1. You'll need to be a resident in Kentucky for 12 months before beginning to attend school in order to qualify for in-state tuition. That is, unless your job has transferred you to Kentucky. If you come in as a job transfer, or because your spouse's job has transferred you here, you can apply for a waiver of the usual resident requirements. The proof of the transfer can be a letter from the employer and a copy of the last two paystubs. You will still have to actually be a resident, with rent/mortgage, KY driver's license, etc, but the 12 months factor can be waived.

Living here means all of the basics - show that you're paying rent or mortgage, a utility bill, Kentucky driver's license, Kentucky car insurance if you drive a car, etc.

  2. You have to live there for a year before you can be considered a resident. You will also need a utility bill or rental agreement  for a local address and change your driver's license.

  3. You will need to live in the state for 12 months and have a place of residence in the state as well. If you are in high school right now, this means you will have to graduate from a high school in Kentucky.

DO NOT MAKE THIS MISTAKE: Going to college in Kentucky for one year does NOT quality you for in-state tuition. Don't think that just because you lived in the state while you were attending college for one year you can now consider yourself a Kentucky resident. States actually have exceptions for students so that they retain residency in the state of their parents' residence.

  4. you need to have an address in kentucky for 12 consecutive months. have postage mail to the address with your name on it. have a kentucky driver's license. call the college to make sure these are the only requirements.
