How do I become a leader of a high school club?

i'm a junior now and i haven't joined one club yet in my last two years. i'm planning to join like 2 clubs especially the interact club but to look good on application, i wanna become like a VP or a treasurer of the club. how do i become on. if i ask the club leader, "can i be the vp please" will he/she let me be vice president. thanks
