How do I become a police officer?

I want to become a police officer, but I do not want to go to college. I was told that I could just go to the police academy. I have been searching on-line, but have not been able to come up with much information. Please help. I want to go as soon as possible. I live in PA, and would like to know where there are police academies.

Every state as there own police academy. Some states allow you to attend the academy. Other states like mine, you have to be hired by a department and that department pays to send you to the academy. Some departments require college. Other do not. Keep in mind that less college requirements mean less pay and slower advancement. Good luck.

First, I would highly recommend attending college. However, if you visit http://www.mpoetc.state.pa.us/mpotrs/cwp... , you will find a list of all the certified municipal police academies in Pennsylvania. You can visit their websites for information about how to attend the academy. The academy consists of over 700 hours of instruction / training. Today, you need some experience.  Sorry, but it is true.

Military, college, this is what they look for.  They want someone that leads themselves, not a person needy of leadership training.  This is important, for no one babies you or gives you the step by step.  

So, go into the military, or sign up for college. If not, you could be dreaming of this for a while; and every so often they let a fresh face in with no experience, but believe me, for I am in the field, it is rare.

Go to your Countys Sheriffs office and ask for a form or phamphlet. Or ask any police agency that is around you and ask.
