  1. well i would think education and therapy, huh?

  2. not shore sorry

  3. Well, usually to become a guidance counselor, you'd have to be a teacher first. (At least that's how it's done in my state) Then I'd imagine you'd take some specialized courses for counseling youth academically and emotionally. You'd have to do an internship at a local school, then you'd be all set.

It would be best if you actually ask a guidance counselor how to do all of this. I'm mainly making guesses.

  4. You major in education.

The start to your career path is the same as anyone who hopes to work in a school, whether as a teacher, administrator, or counselor ... it all starts with a degree in education.

Whether you choose elementary, middle or high school (or you can actually become certified for all grades) doesn't need to be determined at the beginning.  You will learn, both through study, and, later, through actually working with kids, which age-group you are most interested in and suited for.

  5. I would choose a teaching area for my bachelor's degree.  Since school guidance counseling degrees require master's degrees, I would get my master's in school guidance counseling.  I taught English for 25 years.  During that time I got my master's in English.  Later pn I took 18 hours of graduate counseling.  When a counseling job was offered to me, I wasn't sure I wanted it.  I took it and loved it.  I still needed another 18+ hours.  Today, you need around 54 graduate hours for counseling...that's more than administration.  Is it worth it.?  Yes.  I just finished 40 years as a teacher and counselor.  I wouldn't change my life at all.

Go for it!  After you get your teacher's license, teach for a few years.  You'll be surprised how that will help you with the counseling years down the road.

  6. You usually need an undergraduate degree that you can teach, some classroom experience, and then an M.A. in Guidance and Counseling.  Most schools of education have this type of program available for students.

  7. You should go to a school of education and take guidance courses. Also find out the requirements for your States since they do vary./

That said I believe that every guidance counselor should first have some experience teaching.
