  1. Generally, it requires getting a certification.  I believe that the certifying authority, at least in the US, is the PSIA.

Try their website and find out where classes are available.

    http://www.psia.org/01/home/home.asp

Also, talk to your local resorts - and find out what they require.

I believe that you don't have to be a super hot skier to instruct - but you have to demonstrate that you have a good grasp of the fundamentals and decent technique.

  2. i became a ski instructor by taking a class that was at the mountain resort, i taught children so the program i was in training that deals with children off all ages, how to get there attention and keep them motivated to have fun, plus learn at the same time, this way mom and dad can also have a good day as well. Training was physical, and you learned all the basic ways of teaching from beginners to advanced skiers, once certified, you can move up to more advanced training.the best classes offered you can find one local by you would be visit the web site psia.org they will help find a mountain  close to were you live. each mounatin is differnt i worked at one call Shawnee Mountain in pa, in the skiwee program, alot of perks came with my job, i got to ski free when ever i wanted to, as well as my family members, and my kids were in the program and learned to ski , and came to work with me, and we all ate each day for free! teaching your kids something like skiing is a great way as they grow up to spend quality time as a family, best of luck hope i was helpful

  4. You need to ask for the job with the school you wish to teach for.  The ski skills are usually taught in a fall or early winter time frame, with ongoing training throughout the season. The main criteria is a good public personality. A knowledge of teaching and teaching theory, with a practical application in school or as a teaching assistant will help.  Your ski ability is secondary, basic turns in both directions and able to stop and ride the lifts safely.  The more advanced a skier you are the more advanced the classes you will be assigned.  Be ready to start with teaching young children since that is the major customer base. As you gain experience, you will teach more advanced classes and older students.  the work is seasonal, with peaks around all holidays. The base wage is negotiable, tips and gifts make up a big portion of your income.
