Since there are not usually small claims court lawyers, how can I gain the experience to become a small claims court judge? What field of law should I specialize in?

  1. Become a lawyer first.  You can't judge if you are not an expert in the legal system.

  2. No specialization would be especially helpful, although the areas that are most clearly related are tort law and contract law.  Most small claims cases arise in one of those two areas.
