For the 11th grade next year I would like to go to Japan and have school there for a year. My parents gave me the OK, but they don't know what to do either. What are the qualifications? ..what do I have to do?

  1. You should browse through high school programs and look for one that matches what you want to do and where you want to go. When you find a program or programs that suit your goals and your budget, you make an inquiry asking them what their qualifications are. Most exchange programs will help you with the necessary visa and documentation you will need to study there. Click this link to browse high school programs in Japan:

Here are a few individual programs you may want to look at:

Good luck and have an excellent time in Japan!

  2. There are several programs that you can look into that will tell you the qualifications. You can talk to your counselor and see if there is any program your school is associated with or you can google a organization that will help you become an Exchange Student. It will be expensive, depending upon the duration of your stay, a semester or year and I know some students who have hosted a foreign student in their home for a year so that the program may lower the tuition cost for you to study abroad. Good luck!
