Good thing is you only need a high school deploma so it should be easy to find an agency! Here are a few links that give information on it:

The last link I found interesting because you can be a travel agent from home! Ideal for when you have kids, you can stay at home get stuff done and still work at the same time. Good luck hope I helped!

Why don't you go to a travel agent & ask him or her? & why do you want to be a travel agent? there are no money in it so why do you want to

joined them? not much people are travelling to day & it will be worst to morrow so why don't you think of some thing else? unless you just want to be able to say you are working in a traveling agent, but @ the same time you are not really making any money. Then that would not make any sense, would it?

I think & know that you should look for some thing that is in demands & will

make you some money while you are serving the public, Don't you think so?I know that's how you should GO!

Some companies offer apprenticeship type employment try going to travel agents websites and click on careers

I managed to become a travel agent by offering my services for free in return of learning and gaining experience at the agency. It was a desperate move as I was desperate! Luckily my employers decided that they liked the way I worked and when they thought that I was ready they offered me a permanent position.

most of the big travel agents will take on modern apprentices. It is a good idea to have good knowledge of destinations I know when I was hiring I had someone who couldnt even place Europe on a map of the world!!

The pay at this stage is very low but the rewards of being a travel agent are good.

I'm a travel agent with YTB International. It's a publicly traded company that has allowed me to become a Referring Travel Agent. They provide all the tools you need when you sign up. All that you need is the company training. I had some business experience, as well as customer service, and they said that was a bonus

It depends on what kind of travel agent you want to be.

If you want to work for a salary in a storefront travel agency, then the traditional career path is to enroll in a travel school and be trained to operate one of the GDS systems that travel agencies use to make bookings. Then you will start at a low entry-level salary and, hopefully, work your way up.

If you are the more entrepreneurial type and want to be your own boss, there are two ways to be come an independent travel agent these days.

1.) Form a business relationship with an existing travel agency. You would be an independent contractor with your own clients, but you would pass your bookings through the travel agency, using their industry identifier to reassure the supplier that they are dealing with a "real" travel agent.

Then you and the agency share the commission according to a negotiated split, which can range from 50% to 80% to you.

There are many travel agencies that will work with newcomers on this basis. Most, but not all, require a fee to affiliate with them.

2.) Get your own industry identifier and deal directly with suppliers. This is easier than it may sound and it can actually cost less than the fees charged by some of the agencies mentioned in #1.

I don 't recommend this second strategy to newcomers, however. Wait until you have some experience before you decided whether or not it makes sense to strike out on your own.

Depends on how old you are, you can get an apprenticeship, but there are age restrictions. These usually go on for about 2 years. Dont do the NVQ yourself at College or school as it gets you no where. I done NVQ at my local college and I done level 1 and 2, and then when I started doing my apprenticeship I had to do them all over again as it was company procedure. A bit of a nitemare, but worth it in the end.

Also it helps if you are confident with a bubbly and outgoing personality.
