How do I become a vegetarian, and is it a good option for my blood type?

I think I am blood type A (the meat eater blood type) and I'm wondering if it's ok if I stop eating meat but keep eating a few types of fish. How do I transition to a vegetarian, and what are some good vegetables and fruits to be eating. Any tips???

  1. Forget all that blood type rubbish.  It's total junk science that is not supported by any legitimate peer-reviewed research.  It was debunked years ago when it came out, but is evidently making a resurgence given that this is the second question about it in as many days.  All you have to do is look as D'Adamo's website to realize that, like all other fad diet, it's just a money-making scheme.  First you buy the book, then they sell you the blood typing kit...  Evolutionary biologists will tell you that A-B-O blood typing is too new an evolutionary development to support D'Adamo's theories AND that if these theories held water, the human race would have died out millenia ago.

If you want to be a vegetarian, get a good book on vegetarian nutrition, like "The New Becoming Vegetarian" by Brenda Davis and Vesanto Melina, both registered dietitians.  The upshot of it, though, is eat a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds and you're good.

If you are going to continue to eat fish, do everyone a favor and don't call yourself a vegetarian.  Vegetarians don't eat dead animals, even fish.  Call yourself a pescetarian if you need a title.

  2. Sounds like a great idea!

  3. I'd suggest slowly cutting out meat from your diet. First stop eating red meat, then chicken. Don't try to quit all at once since that would annoy you more. And you don't have to follow all the "rules" of being vegetarian. You want to eat only vegetables and occasionally fish? That's fine. Sure, some strict vegetarians might look down their nose at you, but it's your choice, right?

    Good luck. ^_^

  4. Eating fish and not other meat makes you a pescetarian, not a vegetarian.

Any vegetable is good for you, really. Just make sure to stock up on a variety of different colors. My favorite fruit are apples, cantaloupe, plums, and grapes so maybe you can try those at.

  5. Not that I believe the blood type diet but Type A is supposed to avoid meat.  Regardless of that, if you eat fish, you are not a vegetarian.  We do not eat dead animals.
