In order to work at a fire station, you have to be made an FF/Paramedic. Besides having EMT-B and Paramedic training, is there anything else I need to do before being eligible to work at a fire station? I really need the answer, preferably from a firefighter or Paramedic. I'm not sure if you need further training, and I need to know.

  1. Depending upon where you live, you will need Firefighter I & II.  In Missouri, it isn't actually required by the state, but most all departments require it.  It is taught at many community colleges or you may find one through a volunteer fire department.  This also requires two courses in hazardous materials:  Hazmat Awareness and Hazmat Operations, which are not part of the Firefighter I & II course.  The course is about the length of a college semester whether you take it through a college or not.
