I am a Math Teacher in MD who is not fully certified. I have my Conditional Certification. I have my B.A. Mathematics (psychology minor) and I been teaching math for about a year and a half.

I am moving to NYC so I have taken the LAST and Math CST (waiting on results).

Furthermore, I am applying to schools.

What is my next step to becoming certified in NY or obtaining a teaching position?

  1. Most states waive the requirements for the first year when you move to a new state.  In Arizona, they have what they call "Emergency Certification."  You can teach for one year while you fulfill any state requirements that they may have. (Such as taking a test on state and National Constitution)

Since you are a math teacher, I am sure they will be VERY excited about your arrival!

Contact the State Education Office in New York and I am sure that they will help you out.

Thanks for being in the profession.  Good luck!
