  1. By even asking this question you show that you are already formulating a plan of action to reach your goals.  Pat yourself on the back for starting to form a strategy.

Now that your goal is set (3.0), write it down and post it to keep your eyes on your goal.

What will it take to accomplish your goal? Break it down into small goals.  (i.e., Decide how many hours per day you should study.  Determine how many hours and what hours to utilize to get homework done.  Utilize time at school as much as possible (lunch time, breaks, etc.)

Designate a place to study and do homework.  While for some people that may be their homes, others find it easier at a library.  Your local library may be a distraction (too many friends?)--maybe a local university library would be a better option?  (It may also help you to envision your goal to have a 3.0 GPA)

Designate play time.  If you have a social event coming up, don't duck out of it--plan ahead.  Get your homework done and enjoy, the best thing you can do is learn to build play time into a rigorous schedule.

You're on your way.  Best wishes to you for all that you aspire in the future.

  2. you need to create a study space in which only you can go, and you have complete quiet. Also, make a time where you read, do homework...ect ect...only when you make a commitment then you will succeed. good luck!

  3. Clearly your priorities aren't in order. You need to minimize social contact or whatever other distractions are in your life and buckle down, at least until your have all your work done. You have just to remember that if you don't do well, you'll have to deal with the consequences when it comes time for you to graduate (or not).

  4. This is a hard question, as with most things, you have to realize yourself what needs to be done in no uncertain terms.

I'm sure you will get some tips and tricks from other people on how to study and they will probably be great ideas but they will only take you so far when you understand that if you have a goal the only thing Stopping you is Yourself.

For example many people turn to diets in hopes to lose weight - and other ways to 'cheat the system' in getting something you want...I don't think this is wise, you need to be honest with yourself about your goals and what needs to be done.

If I was you I would set up a specific time during the day where you study and you don't stray from it, or you read and you don't stray from it, and you commit yourself to it and you realize when you aren't studying the only person you are hurting is yourself.

It is easy to make excuses as to why you should 'see that movie' instead of studying but you need to be sure you know what your goals are.

All that being said, don't let this Focus take up your whole life, only the part that you designate it should, and then really commit yourself to that time.

  5. The first step is to set a goal and you did that by wanting a 4.0 GPA. Next, you will need to set a daily agenda. Example:

    Math H.W. : 3:30- 4:30 longer if needed

    English: 4:45-5:45

    Dinner: 6-6:30

    Chemistry/science: 6:40-7:40

You probably will not have homework in these subjects everyday, but you will have tests. With tests you will have to spend more time. One hint, while doing your homework for a specific subject read your notes for that day....that's a way of preparing for your upcoming test as well. Some days you will have to put in more time and some days it will be less. I hope that you are also enrolled in a team sport....that should give you a chance to do something you like, exercise, and it is good to be balanced with mind and body. Good luck!
