I would like a job that consists of close operations with other governments. Possibly some sort of CIA etc. I will probably be becoming an officer in the army and was wondering if that would help me get what I want. I am close to fluent in spanish, native english, and have been studying arabic for a month. What branch of service would help me more in my quest. Does anybody have anymore help for me. I'm in college and am trying to figure out what to do afterwards.

  1. Go for intelligence, Special forces, or Psychological Operations in the Army and then apply to the CIA.

Fluency in Arabic and or Chinese would probably help greatly.

  2. The army will definately help. You need to make it to MP. From there you can apply for special assignments that will put you in the running to be called up if you are good.

Another way might be to take it into your own hands and buy a whisper 2000 and go on a tour of Russia and if you record anything good you can leverage your way into the service such as former criminals in forgery etc end up working for the FBI.

Probably door number 1 is more reasonable though.

  3. practice spying on your siblings teacher and friends.

  4. I may be wrong, but talking with strangers on the Internet about being a clandestine agent may not be the best way to go about becoming one.

While being a "James Bond" may sound cool, being clandestine is not for everyone- it's one of the hardest jobs you can have, and would pose many difficult limits on your personal life.  Don't waste your and the government's time if you don't think you can handle that.

My best guess is that one would not seek out such a job, but would be approached by the agency.  This is not to say you can't improve your chances.  Take your Arabic studies seriously, and focus not only on the language but the culture.

Other than that- excel at everything you do.  Being top of your class would be good.  Read, read, read; about everything- history, politics, science, economics.  You probably shouldn't be fond of sleeping-in or napping.

I'd pick up biographies on various spies as well to get a better idea.  I read a good one some years ago about Elie Cohn, Israel's most prominent spy- I highly recommend it (see source).
