Question:

How do I begin a search to find my biological parents?

I was adopted 24 years ago and I had a baby six months ago. I don't know a whole lot about my birth parents but the main reason I would like to know who they are is so I can find out my medical history and just so I can meet them. I would love to know if I had any brothers or sisters too. If anyone has any suggestions please help. Thanks.

  1. Did you start by asking your adoptive parents?  Was it an open or closed adoption?  If it was open it's going to be much easier.  If it was closed it's going to be difficult because the information is most likely sealed.  If your adoptive parents have any information (your birth certificate, what state/hospital you were born in, etc...) I would start there.  If they have nothing and it's a closed adoption you might try websites dedicated to helping adoptive kids find their parents.  They can give you a lot of suggestions on what route to take.
