Question:

How do I board a domestic flight with an online ticket?

Ok, this is going to sound really stupid, but I've never flown by myself before so I need a little help. I'm flying out to an event, and the flight is paid for by the organization hosting the event, so I received a "travel invoice" in my email with the flight info (where I depart, flight times, airline, and a code for me to log into the airline's website).

Now I know thats not the actual ticket. What do I need with me when I go to board the plane? Will the airline have my info when they check me in? Is the ticket something I have to print from the airline website? When I logged onto the airline website, I had options to change my seat and to "check in", which can't be done until 24 hours before.

Any guide of guide would be good, thanks.

  1. I recommend you print your boarding pass the day before, that will save you some time. When you get to the airport, go to the counter to drop off any luggage you want checked in, then head to the security lines. Make sure you have a government issued ID on you. Also make sure anything in your carry-on bag is allowed on the plane. Check the website www.tsa.gov for more information about this. Next head to your gate and shortly you will be on your way. Have a nice trip!

  2. This is your first time so walk into the airport, you'll see a long row of counter. Each airline has it's own section of the counter. Find you airline section, and step up and ask for help.

You'll need an ID and the ticket and a passport if you're going to another country. There are a few rules about what you can't take on a plane, research that or you'll have to throw any items they don't allow away at the airport. Be at the airport at least two hours before departure.

Wear clean socks, you'll have to take your shoes off. Be clean and nice, getting on a plane is kind of a classy way to travel.

If you'r female , wear a short skirt so the guy sitting next to you can check you out.....kidding.

  3. When you get to the airport, get in the line for checking your bags. When you get to the front of the line, you can do 1 of 2 things. You can get you ticket from a computer right there. You type in the number on your piece of paper you have and follow the instructions. If that seems too difficult or you have trouble, then just hand the paper to the luggage check person and he/she will take care of it. They will also tell you what gate to go to, so listen carefully to them. They will give you the boarding pass most likely, but sometimes you get this at the gate. Don't be afraid to ask any question you have to a ticket agent.

  4. Passport, ID, birth certificate, and boarding pass. Then just stand in line and give it to the people who take that kind of stuff. Check in first!

  5. Make sure to print the information you have and take it with you just in case you need it, but you shouldn't.  Just go check in, they will ask for you name and ID.  They will give you boarding passes at that point and you go from there to security and on to the gate.  Keep your boarding pass and ID out for security you will need it.  I always get my tickets online, it is so much easier.
