My house is all vinyl sided, and I want to brick the lower section of the front of the house. Do I need to have concrete footing or is there another way?

  1. You can bolt angle iron to your foundation.Make sure it's level and long enough at the bottom for your brick and a gap behind it.Go to your local brickyard they will hook you up.You need the angle iron with holes in it.Same thing you use above doorways and windows. We have to do it occasionally when the foundation crew forgets to put a brick ledge in a porch.Just to clarify angle iron is what holds your brick up over doors and windows.

  2. Unfortunately...you'd have to have a footing.  All that brick, even if it's only the lower section adds weight to the structure of your house.  If there wasn't a footing to set the weight of the brick on, the earth underneath would eventually adjust to the weight giving you foundation problems.

I'm defiantly not an architect or structural engineer but I work with them...and I can't really think of any way around it...keep researching though!

  3. yes footer needed.....the footer must be min 8" thick and 12" wide for a this application.....
