How do I build a custom subwoofer box for my 1996 Chevy Camaro?

As I said, I have a 1996 Chevy Camaro. I have recently looked into getting subwoofers, but I don't know anything about cars. I want the subwoofer box to be in the sides of the trunk where the hole is rather than taking up my whole trunk. I looked into purchasing the boxes but it was WAY to expensive for me. I have got someone who will help me build the boxes but I just need help with the dimensions and how to build it and install it and stuff like that. Please help me. If you have any more questions concerning my car or anything, feel free to message me and ask.

  1. Many ready- made subwoofer box are available in the market but if you want to develop your own subwoofer box according to the specific area of your car then it is an easy task. You can construct a simple, rugged, and an effective box for your subwoofer. You can use fallowing instruction:

    • Find the dimensions of your box first because every subwoofer needs a certain volume of air to work effectively, so start with that figure. This is usually expressed in cubic feet, and can be found in the subwoofer's manual. Now draw few sketches for your box and multiply the dimensions of the height, width and depth in inches. Tweak the design until it matches the space you have and the needs of the subwoofer.

    • With a circular saw, cut out the front and back pieces of your box, then cut out the top and bottom pieces. In the front, cut an opening with your jigsaw to hold the subwoofer. Assemble these pieces with carpenter's wood glue and wood screws.

    • Cut end pieces for the sub box with your circular saw. These should completely cover the ends of the sub box. For this you can use jigsaw to cut an opening for the terminal cup in one of the end pieces. Mount the terminal cup into the end piece, using wood screws. Attach a piece of speaker wire to the inside tabs of the terminal cup before mounting it into the end piece--make sure the wire is long enough to reach the sub before you mount it into the box.

    • If you want to cover the box then you can use carpet as it will give it a nice finished appearance.

    • Connect the free end of the speaker wire to the subwoofer's terminals and mount the subwoofer into the box using woodscrews.
