My closet is fairly tall but it has all shelves in it. I would like to convert it so that i have to bars in it so that i can hang my clothes instead of folding them.

Does anyone have any idea on how to made a homemade bar to go across my closet and support clothes?

  1. The best thing to do is measure the exact distance from one side of the closset to the other.  With that measurement, go to Home Depot, they have closet bar (thick round pieces).  They will cut it to your exact measurement.  Then there are metal or plastic pieces the fit on each side of the closet you place the bar in this piece with the open side facing up. The guys at HOME Depot will show you.  You hammer or s***w each plastic piece into the inside of the closet.  This is tricky.  You want each round piece and the bar to hold the weight of the clothes, so you might to use dollies to make sure the round bar holders are secure.  What holds the existing shelves up?  Are they each sitting on a piece of wood that is nailed to the side wall?  You can nail the round pieces into that piece of, too, which would make it more secure.  Once the round pieces are secure just set your closet bar into each end. (Remember to measure correctly.)  This will be an easy, fast project once you get the shelves out.  Good luck.

  2. Call me.       ; >

  3. Go to Home Depot, or whatever local improvement store you have, purchase these items:

    1. Closet pole, usually in the moulding dept, a 1-3/8" dia wood pole.

    2. Closet pole ends, made of either wood, plastic or metal, oneis a full circle, the other a semi circle, founde in Hardware

    3. Closet pole support brackets. Depending how large your closet is, you'll need 2 or three

    4. Stud Finder.

    5. Screws to fasten the brackets to the wall.

    6. Level, you don't want all your clothes falling to one side.

Using the level, determine the height that you want your closet pole on the wall. Then find your studs in the wall, Space your brackets about every 3 ft. Secure the brackets to the wall, then you can roughly place your pole in place, in order to put one side of the socket in place, the full circle. Then install the other side, Set the pole in place, and the secure the pole to the brackets.
