How do I build our own community site where my personal freinds and I can share our photo's and also share special events with each other?

Since you are asking this question it is assumed you don't have web development experience in which case I suggest just using an website already in place, either Facebook or Myspace and you can create special groups within it.

Or if you are really stuck on your own dot-com then i suggest checking out www.siteground.com/forum-hosting.htm and just using a forum/bulletin board as your community site.

Why not use myspace and make your and all your friends' profiles private? If you make your profile private only those listed as your friends can see your pictures and profile.

It depends on your background in Web development. If you don't want to either do a ton of learning or pay someone to build a site I'd recommend one of these two free photo sharing services:
