They have a product called BOE-BOT which is a kit and learning course, about programming microcontrollers to accept input from sensors and control servos and motors. The focus is to build a small robot that can react to various kinds of stimuli.

Parallax is an excellent company, that actually takes an interest in your learning.  This is probably the only company which will help you locate their products used on ebay if you can't afford to buy from them.

If you dont even know what you need then you probably will not be sucessful in building it.

Go to school and get a degree in EE and one in ME. Get a large machine shop, several good technicians, several million dollars and several years.
