How do I burn my shows from direct TV hd DVR to dvd?

I have a bunch of episodes of design on a dime on my Direct TV HDDVR that i want to burn to DVD for future reference, I have a DVD burner on my computer, what do I need to do?

  1. There is no simple way to get shows off the Direct / Dishnetwork DVR to DVD.  

    One possibility is to play them back and capture the output to a PC, edit / burn the capture.

    What I finally did was build a MythTV box and use it instead of the Dishnetwork DVR, I can burn movies to DVD directly on this box, also I can transcode them to smaller avi (DivX/Xvid) files for viewing on portable players, and much more.

    The only 'down' side is lack of HD, due to restrictions in the HD output / input / capture.  The normal captures look just fine (DVD quality) and transcodes still look better than video tape.


  2. Easiest way is to buy a dvd burner and run the dvr to it.  You could then watch on the tv or computer if desired and free up your dvr space.
