  1. Hello,  your question is too open ended. The better the question, the better the answers.  Please expand on your question.

Define "good"  Good could mean "fast", "cheap", "durable", "utalitarian" etc.

What is the purpose of the bike? Commuting? racing? recreatianal?

What type of bike are you looking for? Road, mountain, comfort, beach, hybrid, etc?

The first real bike I bought was at a bike shop.  It was good to get it there because I did not know a lot about bikes back then and I could ask the salesman a lot of questions. Since then I have bought numerous bikes at ebay.  It is good to buy there because now I know what I want and the price can't be beat.

Since you are looking for sturdy bikes, I would suggest aluminum rather than carbon.

    Have fun.

  2. Don't shop at Wal-Mart or anywhere else that's big and cheap. Go to a bike shop. It will be costlier, but the bike will be better and you'll get better service.

Plus, don't get too sturdy, or else the bike will handle like a brick.
