Actually, I remembered, but thank you all.

I'll just let people who know what they are talking about decide who provided the best answer :)

  1. remove the CMOS battery of your PC for about a minute (i guess).... return it back then turn on your computer...

  2. woops - big boo boo there.

you may be able to set the bios back to default if it has a reset sequence. check the motherboard manual - or the pc website.

  3. Are you trying to do a Windows repair?

If I were trying to do a windows repair but needed the admin password, I would give up and just reinstall windows, but to a different directory on the hard drive, therefore having two windows installs, but DO NOT REFORMAT the hard drive or you will lose all your files!

I mean seriously, you can spend 8 hours troubleshooting, and possibly failing all attempts and having wasted all your time, or doing my suggestion

  4. The best method to reset a BIOS password depends on what BIOS the computer has. Common BIOS's include AMI, Award, IBM and Phoenix. Numerous other BIOS's do exist, but these are the most common.

Some BIOS's allow you to require a password be entered before the system will boot. Some BIOS's allow you to require a password to be entered before the BIOS setup may be accessed.

The general categories of solutions to reset a BIOS password are:

        * Using a Backdoor BIOS Password

        * Resetting the BIOS Password using Software

        * Resetting the BIOS Password using Hardware

        * Vendor Specific Solutions for resetting the BIOS Password

  5. For the record, a BIOS password is usually called a supervisor password.  A BIOS password is used to stop you getting into the BIOS setup (where you deal with what type of hardware the computer has and how you want it to work - usually black or blue screens that only the keyboard is used in) and to stop unauthorised people from being able to get the computer to a usable state. It is *not* necessary to get into Windows to use the computer.  Repairs and making text documents are two things that spring to mind that can be done if the computer is in a usable state.

An administrator password is used to get into Windows.  This is the one that people are usually referring to when they say they have forgotten their administrator password.  This one can be got round without opening the computer case.

The BIOS password can be got around by opening the computer case and "shorting" a jumper on the motherboard or removing the flat battery from the motherboard for a while.  Shorting a jumper just means putting something metal between two pins that then remove the password from the BIOS.  You have to use the right two pins.  ;-)

  6. You need to identify what brand/version your bios is and then use that information to do a search on the Internet for a program that will reset the bios password.

Failing that, removing the battery from the motherboard will reset the bios to its default settings.  If you can't remove the battery you may be able to short it out through setting a jumper on the motherboard.  Obviously either of these two options requires a certain level of knowledge and technical ability. You may want to get this done professionally.

  7. I have an Intel Mother Board. And I can do it by

    Jumper:http://www.intel.com/support/motherboard...

    Image:http://fileshosts.com/intel/Intel975x/re...

    1.  Open the CPU

    2.  Locate the CMOS battery

    3. Somewhere near it, there will be a jumper ( jumper is a small plastic component that is used to connect two pins, you would have seen it behind the hard disks )

    4. In my case, its a yellow jumper.

    5. The jumper I am referring to is located in a rack of 3 pins, two pins( 1 and 2) are shorted using the jumper.  The other pin is left free "Free pin" (Pin 3).

    6.  Make sure the entire system is switched off, replace the jumper from 1-2 and put it in 2-3.

    7. Got it?

    8. Restart the PC. It goes into a BIOS recovery mode.  All the passwords get cleared.  You have neter bios. Now clear all passwords. Save the BIOS. Exit the Bios.

    9. Switch off

    10. Replace the Jumper to the oroginal position 1-2.

Other possibilities.  If you have any other mother-board, I guess things would be similar.

If you cant do any of these, try removing the CMOS battery for a night, wake up in the morning, replace it.  Am not sure though.

Related Page.  But remember you are not recovering the bios.  You have not lost it. This page will give you a broader idea of what I mentioned. http://www.intel.com/support/motherboard...

Note:  Properly switch off power.  Take out the power chord from UPS or socket.  Be careful.  Don scratch any part of mother board.  Do this at you own risk.
