How do I bypass the logon screen on windows xp with the ctrl + alt + del security function enabled?

Question

I've tried f8 but it still requires me to press the ctrl alt del then brings me to the login screen. Any other suggestions PLEASE! I bought the laptop at a garage sale thinking I got a great deal since the seller 4got the password and deemed the computer useless. I thought I knew better.
