My current rate for usage is 15.8 cents/kWh. According to July statistics for my apartment...I've only used 40kWh. My bill comes out to 33.69. What could I be missing?

  1. Your bill should show you the actual kWh used for the month which you multiply by the kWh rate. However, most electric companies also charge a service or basic charge which is the flat monthly rate to have electricity available. Generally, those charges run between $10 and $25 per month. Then of course you have to add in the taxes.
