How do I call an Australian mobile from America?

I live in America and want to call an Australian friend in Melbourne.

her mobile is 0423307800

what EXACTLY do I dial?

or what would she dial to call me?

dial 61 then the mobile number MINUS the first 0. It will take a bit to connect but it will work. PS it is very pricey to ring a mobile overseas.

Let me correct J.R. here: if calling from your home phone you will dial: 011 + 61 + 423....

The above also works for calls from your cell, dialing + (instead of 011) being just an alternative.

As for dialing from Australia to the US your friend would dial:

0011 + 1 + 3 digit area code + 7 digit local number (this works for calling cell phones too).

To call her you take away the 0 and dial from a mobile [phone].  For her to call you she does for example [phone].  

From your house phone you dial 00 61 423307800.

It would be cheaper for you to get a calling card for overseas mobiles.  And follow the directions on back.  The country code for Australia is 61 and USA is 1
