Question:

How do I capture video from my camcorder to my computer?

I borrowed my friends Sony HD Handycam HDR-SR10 and recorded a bunch of video with it. I use Adobe Premiere Pro 7 to edit and I am used to capturing through a standard IEEE port. This camera films in HD and connects through a USB 2.0 port. I have no idea how to get the footage onto my computer, is there a program I must download to do so?

  2. Your friend's AVCHD camcorder came with a cd that has software for moving the video files from camcorder to computer through the USB cable.  You can also use a Memory Stick to move the video from camcorder to computer without the software and without a USB connection.

You will also need to update your Adobe Premiere 7 to Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 and install Quicktime 7 to ensure compatibility with the AVCHD format.  If you can not afford this or do not want to do it, you need to convert your AVCHD video to another HD format.  Quicktime Pro is available for $30 and can do this for you.  After the conversion, you can import your video into Adobe Premiere 7.
