How do I care for my newborn baby chick?

I have had chickens for a long time now but I have never breeded them. We always just bought them. So my dad and I wanted to try to hatch some eggs so we put them under a heat lamp. One hatched this morning and there was another poking out. So I sat there and watched it for a few hours and it seemed like it was trying to get out and it wasnt. So I gentally peeled some of the shell off and the chick came out, but it still has a sac hanging from him which the other didnt have. Im just wondering if hes automatically going to die, or not or if theres something I can do to help?

  1. I don't think it will die but just watch him keep him warm and as clean as possible.

  2. first of all I am in shock as to how they hatched under a lamp

I am sure you mean an incubator? :O

If not . .  some kind of miracle

well sorry to be the barer of bad news But it is unlikely your chick will survive . . sorry

but the reason being is because chicks hatch when THEY are ready to hatch not when you want them to . The sack is the chick's yolk supply and feeds them when they are in the egg growing and chicks NEVER hatch unless it has been fully absorbed (gone away basically)

so by you tearing away the shell you have made it come into the world before it was ready. .

    It obviously wasn't ready.

so it is unlikely it will survive . .  :(

But don't give up .  keep it warm and don't give either chicks any food or water  for 24 hours (they don't need it as they still have yolk in them)

next time . .  leave the chick hatch on it's OWN it doesn't need human intervention . . that kills them 9 out of 10 times

  3. hi, i used to have a lot of chicks and when they are born with sack, it probably came out early than it was suppose to. u can quickly remove the sac from chick (that's what mother chickens do) and make sure the area is warm and cozy. i'm thinking there might be 50% of chance dying, but good luck!

  4. Well, Usually you can NOT hatch a chcik from having just a heatlamp. It doesnt have the best insilation for the egg to hatch.

Unless you got the egg from ounder the hen? Did you? Well you need to make sure they are warm. You should of let the hen hatch them. Snd when hey dry get them and put them in a brooder of some sort.

Well, if the youlk is inside the chcik it may live. You shouldnt have dont that. It wasnt ready. Try to get a spoge and putting it around the egg or dampon the shell. This helps soften the shell up. easy for the chcik to harch. For now leave it be in a warm area. Make sure its not too hot for the chciks. You really need an incuabtor. Make sure there is humidity in the room to help them hatch eayier.

It wont nessisarily die unless the youlk is handling from its belly button.

Good luck, I hope it makes it.

Make sure you get chcik starer for the other chcik and some water, use a little blater, sauser and keep thm warm.

Did you incuabte them for 21 days under the heatlap? or did you take the eggs from under the hen?

  5. try putting some preparation H on the belly.
