Question:

How do I care for wooden floors?

I've just moved into an apartment with wooden floors. The floors are very worn, scratched, and dull looking. The tenant before had lived here for 8 years and done nothing to the floors but sweep and mop. How do I care for the wood and return a nice shine to the wood? I've never had wooden floors, just carpet, tile, and linoleum.

  1. I used orange glow in which I ordered off the television.  You might can find it on the website.  It is real good.

  2. The best thing to do is a paste wax and buff. Then, mop them with water and a little vinegar added to the water once a week.

  3. start by cleaning with oil soap & water. sometimes this will small step will improve the look of your floors a lot.

if there's a lot of damage then you might need to sand & then revarnish them. renting a sander from The Home Depot will make this job go quickly. since this is more of a "home improvement" project rather than just cleaning, ask the landlord if s/he will reimburse you or give you a discount on rent for doing this work.

to maintain the floors after you get them looking good, use a dust mop or a swifter, and then clean with the oil soap about every six months.
