  1. don't think you can do this in a bank only way i think you can is if you go to somewhere like the money shop, but they take a percentage of the amount of the cheque as their fee, you will need to take i.d

  2. If it's a state, government or big company check then you can just go to walmart at the costumer service desk. Otherwise go to the person's bank branch and ask them to cash it out. If there's not a branch in your area then go to a bank and ask for advise.

  3. If for a very large sum, you may have to arrange with the bank so as they will have enough money to Honor it. Take lots of I.D.

  4. Take the cheques to  your bank and pay straight into your account, if you want some cash straight away take I.D if they don't know you. They may say wait until the cheques have cleared before you can draw the funds.

  5. It depends on what state your in (Banks have different rules)...but if you don't have a bank account to deposit it into you can go to the issuing bank and request it to be cashed...if its a lot of money you may want ot open up an account with that bank or (any other bank) using that check as your deposit...(it may take a few days for the money too be available)...Yes you will need ID a Home address and a phone number.
