Question:

How do I change a Southwest Airline ticket?

I booked a one-way flight at the beginning of June from New Orleans to San Francisco for July 28.

I know on the SW site, you can change your ticket--there's a checkbox that you click when viewing your ticket that says "Change?"

I want to know how much it would cost to change my destination from San Francisco to Los Angeles while still keeping the same day. Does that mean completely booking another flight and if so, does that mean I'm out of the $180 for my original ticket and I'd have to pay for the new ticket? I would click the checkbox that says "Change?" if I knew it wouldn't definitely 100% alter my flight. I simply want to know if it is a) possible to change my destination on the same day and b) how much it would cost if I did decide to do it.

Thank you for any help you can provide!

  1. Your best option might be to call Reservations and see what your options are. You won't be out the $180, it can be applied to your new reservation without a change fee. If your total costs more, you just pay the difference. If it's less, you retain the credit for one year from your original date of purchase.
