Question:

How do I change power settings based on whether the laptop is plugged in or not? (on Vista)?

When using Vista, how can I have the power scheme automatically change whether my laptop is plugged in or not? For example, when the laptop is plugged in I want it to use "High Performance", then if I unplug the laptop I want it to automatically switch to "Power Saver"

I've been looking through the power options but can't find the option.

Advice appreciated!

  1. This program will manage the power options, and yes it will also switch to power saver when in battery mode.

    Vista Battery Saver, its called.

    Hope this helps!

  2. It should be under the advanced power settings link in the power settings.  my cousin is hoarding my laptop so i cant be as specific as i would like. good luck!

  3. When u put on the laptop on in plugged state the system will return to the high performance state without notifying u but to change this go to power options click the power saver settings and adjust the display brightness in plugged condition.

that's all u r system will change its setting to high performance.

    thank u.

  4. I don't think you can switch automatically  between power plans when the laptop is plugged in or running on battery power..you can only change the settings for each of those two options in the same power plan..

It would make a nice update for Vista Service Pack 2 though..If those people working in Microsoft thought about it..
