  1. Right an e-mail to your state senator or congressperson! Or get a petition going, maybe?!

  2. Those accidents are caused by careless or inexperienced drivers, not speed, so you would mostly be wasting your time

(in my opinion) (based on 45 years of driving experience)

Do you think anyone would pay any attention to a lower speed limit?????not likely

  3. If it is a state highway write letters to the Texas Department of Transportation.  Have your friends and family write letters.  Include photos of the crash or vehicles afterwards.  Keep writing letters! Dept of Transportation needs to see that it is something that needs to be changed and not just the opinion of one person.   Pass around a petition, go and talk to the local office of DOT.  Get your voice heard!

  4. You must circulate a petition - has to say what particular stretch of road, between what roads, with requested speed limit to be posted.

Has to have 51% of the property owners, in the specified section, signatures (renters do NOT count).

Must include name, address, and phone number of the person circulation.

Then it needs to be given to the Township and they will forward it to the County Road Commission.

They will do a traffic count and speed study and send them along with other documentation to the State Police.

This procedure takes about six months.

The State Police will decide if the speed limit will be changed.

  5. Speed limits are usually set by the resident engineer at the district Texas Highway Department  office for your area,   within the limits set by the state legislators.     Most common,  the 85% rule is used.

If there is a large number of accidents at the same place,  I suggest getting statistics or reports from whatever police agency investigates them there.   Often,  they will join you in your quest.   Take these with you to shore you arguement for lower speeds or  adding traffic control devices.
