How do I change the home page of my ipod touch?

I want my wallpaper to show up there but it only shows when I put it so sleep.. there's no point in having a wallpaper then for me.. is there a way to hack (but still be able to return to normal) so i have a picture instead of the black background?

I had an Ipod Touch for a while then i took it back cause it got boring........and it was kinda annoying cause of little things like that u cant have a background on the main page(no you cant have a background on the main page)
