How do I change valve positions when attempting to backwash my pool filter?

I am trying to backwash the pool filter however I have no idea which position the handle needs to be in when trying to backwash the filter. The manual simply says set it to the back wash position but I have searched for hours to find which direction that would be. There is no indication on the handles as to what position does what. If it helps my filter is a Nautilus FNS (DE), with a compool valve system. The backwash directions appear simple if I could just know what position to put the handle in.

Friend mark the position the handel is in now for filtering, try rotating to different positions, the position that discharges water out of pool is backwash.
