I plugged a bespeco vm18L pedal into the keyboard but it is not controlling the volume.

  1. There should be a section on the keyboard called "global".  This is where you can edit a lot of general functions on the keyboard. (such as modulation wheel on/off, pitch bend on/off, etc.) Bear in mind on a keyboard of this nature, (very good quality) even though the global setting for volume is turned on(whole keyboard), an individual program or preset  in itself can bypass the global function, and theres a chance that for that particular preset the volume control setting is turned off.  Another thing you might want to check... make sure the keyboard was turned off before plugging the volume pedal in.  Also, make sure its plugged into the proper jack on the keyboard as well.  The owners manuel should help on this, and if you dont have one.. there easy to download right on the Alesis site.  After verifying the controller for the pedal is turned on, if the pedal still does not work, the pedal itself is defective.

Edit:.. Ive done some research on this pedal.  Depending on the age of it, there could be a polarity switch on the pedal.  Try changing the polarity  (+/-).... if then it still wont control the volume, the pedal is defective. (after being sure the global setting for the volume pedal is turned on)
