Question:

How do I choose a good snowboarding package for next season?

I snowboarded all through college but I havent been on the slopes for about 8 years now. My wife and I are looking to get back into the sport but I dont even know where to start. Any ideas on where I can find a good package deal for both of us, and what I should be looking for in respect to binding type, board length, etc. Im not sure if it has changed since I used to board. I am about 6 feet tall, 230 lbs, and my wife is 5'3" and about 115. Let me know what you think, where I can go to get a good deal (figured that this is the time of year to do it), etc. thanks!

  1. I wouldn't suggest getting a package - look for the best board for your riding style and the boots that fit the best. They probably won't be the same brand. As for size, use a calculator to find the right size for each of you:

Your height, weight, shoe size, and riding style will make a difference on what size you get as well as what brand of board. That calculator will give you some suggestions. My favorite brands are Ride, K2 - for park boards maybe K2, Rome, Gnu, Lib Tech.

For boots, it is what fits the best. Try the best brands like ThirtyTwo, DC, Vans, K2, Burton.

For bindings, get the ones that have quality metal buckles and are priced right - I don't think you can beat the Ride EX.

It is clearance time right now, and next fall there will be pre-season sales - do you have a Sports Authority store near you?

    Good Luck

  2. i would get a fat trax package.

    a burton package

    a k2 package

    rosnal package

    or a flow package

  3. as the guy above said, K2 and burton both would make good packages. packages are good to save a couple bucks here and there.

i personally dislike flow so i would not suggest a package from them to u (more specifically their bindings i dont like)

forum, rome and ride can offer packages if wherever you buy from offers it

go to a proper snowboard shop and not a franchised store

always explore all options, and try to buy now because it'll be much cheaper

if you buy now, you can most likely grab a cheaper price and wouldnt have to look for a package, you can grab what you want and what will best cater to your needs.

    for you:

in the 162 range for length. also, if you have bigger feet you may also want to look at wider board options

i find burton makes great bindings but as does rome

    for your wife:

142 would be about right. because she's 5'3, she could even get away with a kids board because some go to 145.

    happy riding
