  1. as a general rule if you have a sailing vessel you should use a unity gain antenna and on a power boat a high gain antenna should be used.

  2. You need on that is made to operate (or cut) to the same operating frequency as the radio.

  3. Just grab a Shakespear or Metz or comparable antenna.

Get 3db Gain for a sailboat masthead and 5db Gain for a powerboat. Do not go to Radioshack or comparable store...including Wallmart. Get to a Marine store and you'll be okay.

  4. I'm assuming you're asking about the same bayliner you have already been on line about. If so:

Get a 5db gain antenna of the length you want. All VHF antenna use the same cord plug/s***w adapter at the radio end so no worries there. Make sure to get a VHF antenna. Keep in mind many antenna do not come with bases to mount them to the boat. So check and see if you need to get one of these as well.

    Good luck!

  5. go to uniden.com and ask the vhf people what will do the best job for your radio ....

  6. Get one to fit your situation.  Do not put a 20 foot antenna on a t-top.  In general get the best you can afford, it will pay off in better radio performance.
