How do I choose an electric guitar if I don't know anything about guitars at all?

Well, I've asked some people about how to choose a guitar and they all told me to try to play them first and see which of them I am most comfortable with. The problem is, I don't know how to play a guitar at all because I am just planning to apply for lessons. I would also accept some suggestions on some good beginner electric guitars.

Why not bring somebody with you (if you happen to purchase one) who knows a great deal about guitar and other musical instruments. My brother didn't know anything about guitar when he started to be interested. I just got him a begginners lesson from the internet, it took him only 1 week to learn all the basics, then i provided him guitar tabs which he understood immediately. You see, if you are really interested you will strive hard to learn. Now. My brother is very good at it, he even plays the bass guitar in our church now. He knows something about drums and keyboards too.
