When looking at an undergraduate pre-med program, how do I choose? I only know of local colleges. How do I broaden by searches. I would like to focus on sports medicine in my future as a career.

  3. Your dilemma has been shared by prospective pre-med students for at 3/4ths of a century, probably longer. I can remember my frustrations and dilemmas similar to yours, and that was five decades ago.

Barron's, Petersons, US News and World Reports are some notable sources on college information. Look for a college that has a respected pre-med program.  But most colleges tout their pre-med programs. You will never find written, "our pre-med program is terrible and only 5% of our graduates get into medical school." Your high school counselor or alumni office may be able to put you in contact with physician-alumni who are willing to speak with you. But even then, be careful.

College is not the time to focus on a medical specialty. You could take two courses in college related to sports medicine in a very general way, no more.

I enjoyed xxluna's response. There is a measure of truth to it.

  4. Go to University Of Iowa, they have a good S.M. program.
