How do I clean my used electric oven with Easy Off?

I'm guessing I would need to cover the heating elements with aluminum foil before shaking and spraying the Easy Off and later wiping it off with paper towels.

  1. Lesley is right on.  I think it's on the bottle, make that final rinse with vinegar and water.  Removes that last bit of oven cleaner film from the oven walls.

The racks do better if you put them into a garbage bag along with several cups of household ammonia and let it sit overnight (I put it in the bathtub).  By the next morning the crud is far easier to remove.  Yeah, you can use Easy Off but I didn't like what it did to the chrome on the racks.

If you need to "scrub" some tough areas on the oven, use Brillo or SOS pads.

OF course you don't have a continuous clean oven.......never use chemicals on those.  They are different than a self cleaning oven.

  2. You do not cover the heating elements with aluminum foil.  You just spray your oven with it, leave the oven on for a short time and wipe it down with a wet towel but you turn the oven off first before you wipe it down with a wet towel.

  3. I recently cleaned my oven with easy off no fume, and it's very simple with no scrubbing.  I don't cover the elements (you can if you like), but more try to spray around them and under them.  I usually leave the oven closed over night to let the chemicals do their job, and then I take an old rag (more durable than paper towels) wipe while repeatedly rinsing the rag under running water.
