How do I clean out a hot tub?

Well, we purchased a hot tub and it has been sitting on the deck for awhile because there was a problem with the electrical plug, but we fixed that. Now there is a little bit of mucky water on the edges, and I need to start cleaning it out, so does anyone have any quick, easy, and safe ways to get it out? It's not like that much.. only a little on the edges. I just need help.. lol.

Thanks! :D

  1. Hello!

Absolutely do not use Pinesol!  It will in time damage the seals behind the jets that keep water from leaking out from behind your jets.  With water in your hot tub, buy a half gal. of distilled vinegar.  Pour half of it in and turn your jets on for 20 minutes.  Immediately drain your tub completely.  That white "milky" substance on the side of your tub is in fact "scale".  That is the Calcium Chloride that has re-solidified due to high pH.  You can try using some stain and scale on a sponge and rub it on but it will usually not take it off.  There are specialty products available to help get it off but we do not have a high success rate with any of them.  Keep using your stain and scale as directed and over time it will help.  Please do not use anything abrasive since those scratches that will happen also help in letting some hot water heat up the resin bond below your acrylic and that in turn helps create blisters on your shell.  Never use soap nor anything else that are household cleaners.  It's all about chemistry and a lot of things have detrimental effects on  the Pumps seal, the gaskets, PVC hoses and of course shell.  Most daily repairs we do are from poor chemistry and or just plain lack of knowledge  on the owners part in what damages their tub.  Good luck to you.

  2. Get a bucket of hotwater and some pinesol...no need to buy any expensive products.

  3. Spray it with a hose and then scrum away the stains and then pour out the water.
