It is really only stiff/rough/crunchy at the ends....where most of the hair/body drying is done. Its not a mineral water thing i dont think... Is it a buildup of skin and such? how in the world do you get something like that out?

  1. Try soaking them in water with baking soda.  Baking soda acts as a water softening agent, so that whatever has built up will more easily come loose.  I'd say soak them in your washer overnight if possible, then run them through a regular cycle.

  2. hot water wash them twice if you have to use downy because as it softens it actually loosens all that crud up. If you have to let them soak in the washer once it is full for about an hour. I have the same problem but the good news is you dont have to do this every time you wash the towels just every 3 or 4.

  3. I would wash them with a cup of vinegar in the rinse or fill up a downey ball. It will help with the softness as well as removing the crud and any leftover smells. If you use downey it will not absorb the water as well.
