How do I clear house odor?

I'm not sure why my house carry like a musty food odor. It is in my living room and also stairway. I'm not sure if it could possibly be that my carpet needs to be clean more often or what. No pets at all.help

carpets have to have gotton wet at one time. try shaking arm and hammer baking soda on them and leave for 2 days, then vacumn. worked for my wreck room.

If it is your carpet, a good sprinkling of baking soda will do wonders. Just use it like you would any carpet deodorizer. You will need to sprinkle it on pretty heavy and vacuum a couple of times to get it all up. You will also need to empty your bag or canister a few times, but it will work if you are diligent. I would do it twice the first week and see if that works. If not, I would suggest a good professional cleaning. If you don't mind the smell of vinegar you might try misting your carpet with that as well. The smell doesn't last long. Hope this helps.

Try changing your air conditioner filters...   When my house starts to get a musty smell I change out my a/c filters and within two hours there is a noticeable difference.

It could be because of excess humidity at one time. I find Damp Rid not only removes water in the air or basement,but also takes out musty odors.You can buy refills instead of new starter kits. It works great after a vacation home has been closed up for the winter.
