Question:

How do I clip my dog's tail? ?

Is it too late to do it at 2 years old? It is a labrador retriever. I can't afford a vet right now; I need it done now because I have a new baby that he keeps hitting in the face. Any online step to step guide would be nice that doesn't take any special equipment would be nice. Thanks.

  1. I don't think you are serious about this, but will answer as tho you are.

You cannot chop off your dog's tail now. It should have been done at 2-3 days of age. And Labradors do not have their tail docked. The baby will eventually grow taller and the tail will no longer be in his face. It's not fair to put a dog thru tail amputation just cause the kid's getting his face wagged on.

  2. Whoa.. You can't 'clip' a dogs tail, especially when it's fully grown..

Docking of tails (at least in Australia) is illegal, you'll just have to keep the baby away from the dogs rear or up higher that your dog, because you simply can't cut off the dogs tail... It's part of the coccygeal vertebrae, so as I've stated, ain't gonna happen.

  3. wow you must be joking!don't do it at home:your dog will bleed to death.

  4. For one thing Labradors tails are not meant to be clipped.  If it really poses a problem why don't you consider adoption rather than mame the poor creature!  Labradors are in great demand.  Another option would be to make your pet as comfortable as possible in your back yard if that is fesable.  I'm sure there are even more options.  Another is to turn the dog over to Lasb rescue, they will find a good adoptive family.  PLEASE, don't clip the dogs tail!!!

  5. clip as in cut off? no there is no way to do that andd please don't attempt to. people cut off puppies tails because they can't feel it. if you can't afford a vet then why do you have a dog?

EDIT: yes I know you want to "snip it down to a nub" that's considered cutting it off..

Please don't even try this unless you want a dead dog. A vet might not even be able to.

EDIT: did you seriously just say that first aid training in high school is enough medical training to cut off a dogs tail? and did you honestly just say that you'd give him cough syrup to "dope him up" You don't deserve a dog.

  6. ...How is the baby still alive if it keeps getting hit with what I imagine is a very thick and heavy tail? That's what I want to know.

  7. Did you just ask this question?  You seriously need your dog AND child taken away if you thought chopping your dog's tail off to keep it out of your kid's face was a good idea!  Why don't you try separating the kid and the dog??  It's a simple matter of using a baby gate or closing a door and it's a lot less bloody and painful for the dog!   You're talking nonchalantly about cutting through bone, arteries, and nerves and having to stitch up the open gaping, bleeding wound afterwards but you don't want to have to use any special equipment.  Wow.  Were you under the impression it would be rather like cutting toenails or something??  Please, please tell me you were joking!

  8. Keep your baby away from the dog. That's just common sense. You can't cut off a dog's tail at this age, and you especially can't do it yourself. What do you want, anyway? Directions that tell you how to do it with a pair of pruning shears, or maybe a big butcher's knife?

  9. Your Lab has a 'happy tail'..You can get a strip of velcro in the sewing department. .

When the Lab is near the baby, wrap the velcro lightly around his tail and the top portion of his hind leg, and he can't wag his tail.

  10. waaa...its too old to get its tail cut off...please dont!!

just keep the baby away from the dog, it would be a benefit for them both.

  11. Do not cut a dog's tail yourself.

Amputation should always be done by a professional.

If not done by a professional, you could easily hurt your dog very seriously or cause an infection.

If you can't afford a vet, you shouldn't have gotten a dog.

  12. I see why you want to but seriously there is no reason to cut it's tail off! That's like cutting your pinky toes off just because they don't seem to have a purpose! A dongs tail is important to it...why else did it come to evolve one?

There must be another way! I mena maybe just keep the dog away from the baby...or something....i wish i could help more but i can't.

If you are going to do this (and please don't it's not fair!) then you better see a vet...last thing you need is a dog with a bleeding infecting remains of a tail around your baby!

By the way congrats on your baby. Don;t know how old it is but yeah....you still deserve praise! XD!

  13.    First cut off one of your infants fingers. Then once it has healed and she can talk, ask her how it felt... If she is cool with what you did then by all means just grab some scissors and have at it. Good Luck.     Signed....... Someone who cares.
