I have a styrofoam ice chest that is really thick and keeps things super cool so I want to save it. It keeps getting dented and I'm afraid it will crack.

  1. The only substance you can coat styrofoam with is Epoxy resin, NOT fiberglas resin, but epoxy resin, like in the 5 min. stuff. But go to a hobby shop that specialises in Model Airplanes. They sell the epoxy in larger quantities. We model airplane builders use it to cover the wings of our large models, then spray paint a nice finish coat to the model.

Also, you can use the epoxy to bond thin sheets of plywood to the foam. You can buy plywood as thin as 1/64". We use it to sheet the wings sometimes.

  2. I would cover it with duct tape
