How do I come up with a good list of metatags for a website?

What makes a good metatag? Are they going to be the same keywords you would use to advertise on a search engine?

They can be the same or you can use a different set. The best ones are ones you write yourself.

Meta Tags will help with rankings, but they are not the only thing that will get you on top.

You also need good, fresh content on a regular basis, also pl;ace "Content Links" which are links to pages with similar content.

Click on the "Web Site Content" radio button, tybe in your Web Page URL and then it will give you key words, avarage search trends, Search Volume etc...

Choosing the right meta tags can boost both your traffic and ranking, this could be achieved by checking your log files and see how people find your business or by using your web analytics tool or by doing some research using google ad words tool or any other tool that suggest keywords.

This is the first thing you should do before writing your meta data.

After getting your keywords, use them to write first the description tag describing exactly what's the destination page putting these keywords at the beginning of the sentence. The idea here is to make it usable to the user when searching to understand where they are going and what are they expecting to see.

After that and by using the same keywords start writing your title tag and put your keywords at first as well, the title tag should be a summery of the description tag with 7 to 8 words descriptive enough to understand the destination page.
